WCET Best Practices

Best Practices for Electronically Offered Degree and Certificate Programs. These standards for distance education were published by the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications (WCET). Boise State’s Guidelines cite these standards as important to issues of collaboration, centralization, and support. In addition, since the WCET Best Practices were developed by the eight regional accrediting commissions, it is expected that Boise State will be asked to demonstrate compliance with these standards during its next review.
Quality Matters Rubric
Quality Matters. The Quality Matters™ (QM) project was developed by Maryland Online, a consortium of 19 community colleges and senior institutions, with a grant from the U.S. Department Fund For The Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). The purpose of the project was to develop a consistent instrument for peer review of online courses, while fostering course improvements. The rubric published on Faculty Online is the one from the original Quality Matters Pilot. It is a rubric frequently used by institutions developing their own rubric to improve online course quality. An interactive demo of the original QM rubric is available through the Eastern Shore Association of Colleges (ESAC) Web site.
