Pine needles in the sand,
Just a mem’ry of what used to be,
Fallen, withered, dried and tanned
Since they clung in clusters to a tree.
Now they’re seldom seen
Since they’ve tumbled down,
For they’ve changed from green
Into a rusty brown.
They are fallen, withered, dried and tanned,
Only pine needles in the sand.
There are pine needles in bouquets
And in boughs that hang above my head,
But the ones that I just can’t pass by
Are the fallen needles dried and dead.
Now they’re seldom seen
Since they’ve tumbled down,
For they’ve changed from green
Into a rusty brown.
They are fallen, withered, dried and tanned,
Only pine needles in the sand.
I can feel another’s tender love
And accept another’s gentle hand,
But the memories of yesterday
Lie, like pine needles, in the sand.
Now they’re seldom seen
Since they’ve tumbled down,
For they’ve changed from green
Into a rusty brown.
They are fallen, withered, dried and tanned,
But I can’t help but see ’round where I stand
Those fallen pine needles in the sand.
